Every deed takes birth as a thought in our mind, finds it’s way on our tongues as words and becomes our deeds. This we call ‘Manasa (meaning through heart/mind), Vaacha (meaning through our words/language) and KarmaNa (meaning through our deeds).
Every single day, every hour, every minute of our life, our mind is never still. Its crowded by our many thoughts, good, bad, necessary, unnecessary etc., How do we organize these thoughts? Some may ask if it is really necessary. The answer is, its a choice that we must make as we grow older but I highly recommend it.
All of us are very particular about how we look, we keep our houses clean, the cars are sparkling, we even tend to our footwear so we don’t wear dirty footwear. We were taught that all of this is important, a tidy house, good clothes, good footwear etc., We were also taught that good thoughts were important, but I guess we don’t take discipling our thoughts very seriously.
If we can keep every bad thought at bay, the words we speak will be clean and wont hurt anyone. If we refrain from saying anything negative or hurtful to others, we will never have an opportunity to do anything wrong. So, that, according to me, a bad thought at the gate of our minds, is our worst enemy and we always keep him at bay.
How? I was taught a few ways as a child. My mother taught me how if we said fire, our tongues would catch fire. It literally meant, what we say happens to us first. If we say bad things about others, it means that we are capable of being that because we recognize it. Ever noticed how children don’t hold on to grudges, they come back to you even if you have said something mean to them or yelled at them? That’s because they are incapable of being mean. So they don’t think you are being mean either. What you see in others is a reflection of what you are capable of. Period.
Other fun way of keeping bad thoughts at bay or not having any thoughts is to constantly keep good music playing! It works for me and I am mostly listening to music all day :)
I suggest that we take every day with emphasis on disciplining our thoughts and lead a happy life !
I agree with the music listening thing!!!
